Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) has become the standard method for installing pipelines across waterways, roads, and other obstacles which are normally encountered in an onshore pipeline route.

HDD is also often used to install pipelines across shorelines, for hydrocarbon pipelines, water intakes and effluent outfalls.

When it is well engineered, prepared, and applied, it has the capacity to deliver outstanding outcomes.

Atteris can perform all phases of the design work of your project. This ranges from selecting the most cost-effective crossing location through to detailed design, for both onshore and offshore environments, and for the full range of geotechnical conditions, from soft soils to hard rock. Our construction expertise also allows us to assist you with managing the construction phase of your project.

Our expertise extends to those drilled crossings where both the entry and exit points of the drilling are subsea, e.g. for shipping lane crossings.

Our engineering design expertise covers the full range of horizontal directional drilling including:

  • Hydrocarbon Pipelines
  • Water Pipelines
  • Sewer Lines
  • Cables
  • Pipeline Crossings
  • River Crossings
  • Shoreline Crossings
  • Landfalls/Outfalls
  • Water Intakes/Outlets
  • Shipping Channel Crossings
